Land-based bingo added to official monthly statistics for the first time.

monthly stats

Key points:

- Gambling spend in Denmark rose 1.4% in March 2025 compared with March 2024

- Online casino revenue increased 6.4%, offsetting declines in betting and land-based verticals

- Land-based bingo introduced as a new reporting category under liberalised market conditions

The Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden) has reported a 1.4% year-on-year increase in total gambling spend for March 2025, with online casino activity once again emerging as the sector’s strongest performer.

According to the regulator’s latest monthly figures, online casino revenue rose by 6.4% compared with March 2024, continuing the upward trajectory seen in previous months.

In contrast, betting, gaming machines and land-based casino activity experienced marginal declines, in line with a broader shift towards digital gambling channels.

The March report also marks the first appearance of land-based bingo as a standalone gambling category within the monthly statistics. Following regulatory changes implemented on 1 January 2025, operators licensed under Denmark’s liberalised framework are now permitted to offer bingo on commercial terms.

Figures from charitable bingo operations remain categorised separately under the lottery vertical.

Spillemyndigheden also recently published its annual report The Gambling Market in Numbers 2024, which provides an overview of activity across Denmark’s regulated gambling industry.

Good to know: The report confirmed that total gambling spend for 2024 reached DKK 11.0bn ($1.6bn) – a 5.6% increase from 2023

Online gambling accounted for a growing share of the market, with the channelisation rate – the proportion of gambling conducted via licensed operators – reaching 91.5% in 2024, up from 90.8% the previous year. Denmark now ranks fifth globally in terms of regulated online gambling market share.

The report also examined betting activity during major sporting events such as the UEFA Men’s Euro 2024, highlighting a measurable increase in stakes when Denmark played. Additional sections covered responsible gambling initiatives, including the ROFUS self-exclusion register and the StopSpillet support helpline.

Earlier this year, Denmark introduced new licensing requirements for game suppliers, with mandatory compliance due by July 2025. In 2024, gross gaming revenue totalled DKK 7.27bn, with online casino contributing nearly half of that figure. Gaming machines were the only major vertical to decline in full-year performance.
