- Sands China and Guangdong-Macau Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology Industrial Park Development Co (GMTCM) have signed an MOU to integrate Big Health tourism across Macao and Hengqin

- The collaboration focuses on Macao's tourism infrastructure and Hengqin's health efforts

Sands China and GMTCM have confirmed their collaboration in the health tourism industry, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This MOU focuses on merging both regions to focus on traditional Chinese medicine and health tourism, drawing attention to Macao and Hengqin in the Greater Bay Area.

By partnering with GMTCM, Sands China aims to integrate health initiatives into the city's tourism landscape. This MOU sets the foundation for projects that align with Macao's economic diversification, as outlined in the region’s "1+4" plan. This plan aims to diversify revenue sources away from gaming in Macau, following challenges experienced during the shutdown of casinos during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The partnership focuses on facilitating cross-border development and health-related tourism. The alliance will create connections between the tourism sector, traditional Chinese medicine and the health market.

Collaborative efforts include hosting MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) events, introducing health tourism products and developing new facilities. These initiatives will cater to both international tourists and local residents, offering health management services.

Good to know: Sands China operates integrated resorts in Macao, while GMTCM focuses on traditional Chinese medicine and big health industries across Guangdong and Macao

Wu Song, GMTCM Chairman, stated: "This collaboration marks the official launch of in-depth cooperation between the two parties in the field of big health and tourism, carrying profound significance for advancing the cross-sector integration of Macao and Hengqin's 'tourism+' initiatives.

"Since China Taiping officially took over the operation of the industrial park in January 2023, significant achievements have been made with the enthusiastic support of relevant central ministries, the Macao SAR Government and various sectors of society."
