Irish National lottery hits record sales

The

Irish Lotto
Irish National Lottery (INL) has reported an increased turnover of 12% for 2016 as a result of record sales totalling €750m as reported in the Irish Times.

Premier Lotteries Ireland (PLI), the operators of the national lottery, attributed the success of their turnover to an increase of investment and better use of its sales outlets. The number of stores and vendors in Premier’s network grew from 4,002 to 5,290 last year.

Dermot Griffin, CEO of Premier Lotteries said: "Several important initiatives were activated during the year, including the continued refresh of our game portfolio, major investment in our online and retail channels and the launch of the new National Lottery App".

PLI was awarded a 20-year licence to operate the National Lottery by the Irish Government in November 2014. PLI’s biggest jackpot to date was a €13,793,435 Lotto jackpot on January 23rd 2016. The record jackpot also helped to raise the profile and turnover for last year.

The modernisation of the Irish game has allowed for increased growth by utilising various online platforms in particular smart phones and tablets. The popularity of the games and their accessibility meant that 2.1million Irish nationals frequently participated.

Part of the appeal of the lottery is the fact that of the €750m, €213m was given to charities and other good causes. A further €422m was awarded in prizes.

The good news comes on the Irish National Lotteries 30th birthday year which will see numerous special awards and events taking place.
