McGregor vs. Mayweather fight increased Las Vegas sportsbook revenue by an unbelievable 1,651% in August, creating a positive multiplier effect on most gambling sectors.

The 11.3% win rate is the highest ever achieved for Nevada in August. As a result revenues rose to $33.95m representing a staggering 1,651% increase for the states sportsbook’s.

It will take a long time for Vegas to come across a fight or any event for that matter as much anticipated as the boxing match which took place on 26 August. McGregor, the charismatic UFC champion, against Mayweather, the undefeated poster boy for Las Vegas.

The fight has been reported to break numerous gambling records; however, it is only now that we can see the effect on the Las Vegas casinos.

The Nevada Gaming Control board released figures that reflected the assumed impact of the boxing match. If more proof was needed of the huge success that the fight was for betting industry, Las Vegas saw a year on year increase of 14.9% revenue this August. Blackjack rose 33.6% as takings reached $108.5m while baccarat jumped 37.9% to $101.5m.

The increased foot traffic and excitement surrounding the fight attracted thousands of tourists to the strip. As ticket prices were high for the event many travelled just to take in the atmosphere. $70m was said to be placed on the boxing match with many backing Mcgregor, the clear underdog. Fortunately for the bookies Mayweather was able to retain his undefeated record and pocket the sportsbooks huge profits.
