The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) reported gross gaming revenue (GGR) of $35.7m from two casinos for December.

MGM Springfield generated $7.3m in GGR from table games and $14.3m from slot machines, totalling $21.6m. This was an increase from November’s $21.2m.

As it is a category one resort casino, MGM Springfield is taxed on 25% of GGR, with that amount allocated to several state funds, as determined by the gaming statute, including transportation infrastructure and education.

Plainridge Park Casino generated GGR of $14.1m, made up purely from slot revenue. Plainridge is a category two facility and is taxed on 49% of GGR, with the state distributing 82% of that amount to Local Aid and 18% to the Race Horse Development Fund.

To date, the Massachusetts Commonwealth has collected approximately $309m in taxes and assessments from the two casinos.

The MGC also appointed its new Chairwoman on Tuesday.  Cathy Judd has taken up the role, following the resignation of former chairman Stephen Crosby in September,

Crosby has worked for the Massachusetts State Lottery and advised former Massachusetts governors Paul Cellucci, Jane Swift, Mitt Romney and Deval Patrick on legal and ethical issues.
