Industry GambleAware donations hit £7.6m for 2019

GambleAware has announced the latest figure for donations from the UK gambling industry for the period from 1 April - 31 December 2019, which totaled £7.6m ($9.9m).

The figure represents donations pledged and received by GambleAware, which aims to fund research, education and treatment services to help reduce harm from gambling in Great Britain.

The donations come from a wide range of groups across the gambling industry and companies are asked to donate 0.1% of their Gross Gambling Yield (GGY) to the group, although those with a GGY of less than £250,000 are asked to donate £250.

The biggest donation received in the period comes from Bet365, which donated £868,000, but several have pledged more than that for the full 2019/20 period.

GVC has pledged £1.4m, while William Hill and Flutter have both pledged £1m.

Funds also came via regulatory settlements with the Gambling Commission, which saw LeoVegas provide £600,000 and Gamesys donate £690,000.

The full figures from the 2019/20 financial year are set to be published in April.
