The campaign #readytotalk aims to raise awareness of support services at a time when people are most vulnerable.

The problem gambling charity, which runs the National Gambling Helpline, has pledged its support to the campaign, alongside Samaritans, Refuge and Cruse Bereavement Care. All of which have ensured their helplines will be open to the public when needed.

GamCare CEO Anna Hemmings said: "We know addictions, and gambling problems specifically, can be aggravated by feelings of isolation and distress that have been so prevalent through lockdown.

"We want people to know we are here to help and ready to listen whenever they are ready to talk. It is great to have support services and helplines united in their desire to help people across the country, especially during uncertain times."

The gambling industry has undertaken several initiatives to guard against problem gambling during this period.

Last month, the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) launched a new £10m ($12.7m) national gambling education and support programme in the UK, which GamCare and YGAM will provide.

Meanwhile, in March, the BGC announced an action plan with 10 pledges to heighten monitoring and standards in response to a rise in online gambling during lockdown.
