PointsBet set to launch mobile sports betting in Illinois

The Illinois Gaming Board (IGB)  has confirmed partners PointsBet and Hawthorne Race Course plan to launch mobile sports betting in Illinois ahead of National Football League (NFL) season, after filing its go-live request last week.

While this will be the fourth state launch for the sports betting brand, PointsBet will be the first operator in Illinois with a horse racet rack partnership, including three Off-Track Bettings.

This means that while consumers may register online, they’ll be able to visit one of four different PointsBet sportsbooks should they choose to register in person.

“What we wanted to design was a catchment. So if you headed north of Chicago, northwest, southwest or south, chances are you are going to drive past one of our four sportsbooks, said US PointsBet CEO Johnny Aitken.

“With the weight of [the] NBC behind us, we feel extremely confident about our position to win market access in [any] State we choose to enter.”

Last month PointsBet inked a five-year media partnership with broadcasting and entertainment company NBCUniversal in a deal worth nearly $400 million, becoming the official sports betting partner of NBC Sports in the US and gaining access to more than 184 million viewers and digital assets spanning 60 million monthly active users.
