By Violeta Prockyte

SkyCity Adelaide expansion, which was scheduled to open in late November, was pushed back to 1 December. The new development is said to have cost AU$330m (US$241.58) and includes a 120-room luxury hotel Eos and several restaurants.

The company released a statement saying the entry to the casino through the nearby venues will not be permitted and “the casino will be operating under a limited and further tightly controlled model, adhering to the Government Directions Notice. Unfortunately, our main gaming floor will be temporarily closed to the public until restrictions ease.”

SkyCity looks forward to opening the expanded SkyCity Adelaide, but the health and safety of the workers and the community is the priority. “We look forward to celebrating the opening of these venues with South Australians at the appropriate time.”

The company was quick to reassure that “SkyCity’s New Zealand properties (in Auckland, Hamilton and Queenstown) are unaffected by these latest restrictions in South Australia and remain open at Alert Level 1 in New Zealand.”

Before the COVID-19 closure update, SkyCity recently reported three of its executives will be leaving the company.
