The temporary shutdown of the gaming floors and the golf course was a response due to concerns of increasing cases of COVID-19 in the state and should last about two weeks.

“The safety of our team members and guests are our top priority,” Casino GM Michael Fisher said. “Team members will be paid through the tentative two-week closure. We look forward to announcing our reopening.”

Before closure, Chinook Winds casino also took minor steps to ensure the safety of guests, such as the request not to smoke indoors and the temporarily-suspended buffet service. The casino stated it will take this time to sanitise the venue, and any further actions will be based on the advice from health organisations.

Recently, Oregon had a sharp increase of infections, and Governor Kate Brown placed restrictions on many activities, including restaurant services and in-home meetings. The restrictions came into effect on 18 November, but the casinos were largely allowed to continue operations.
