Casino closures in Seoul extended until 17 January

Seoul is under Level 2.5, while the rest of the country follows Level 2 measures.

Previously, Grand Korea Leisure Co Ltd (GKL), operator of foreigner-only casinos, announced three of its venues will close until 4 January. Paradise Co Ltd, another operator catering to foreigners, also stated its casino in Seoul will be closed until 4 January.

GKL closed its three venues at the beginning of December and extended closures several times; Paradise Walkerhill property in Seoul was closed on 15 December. But the company’s Integrated Resort (IR) Paradise City remained operational, despite a report that one of the guests tested positive for COVID-19.

Casinos in Jeju island fall under Level 2 measures and have some restrictions as well. Jeju has eight casinos, and more than half of them suspended operations to battle the growing number of cases in the country.

Kangwon Land casino announced it will be closed until 18 January, but the ski resort would remain operational. Tourist catering properties on the island, that previously had to be closed due to safety restrictions, can operate at 30% capacity and hotels can offer 50% of rooms.
