Resorts World Genting is the only legal casino in Malaysia; it is owned and operated by Genting Malaysia Bhd.

According to Malaysia Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, the renewed movement control order affects five states and the federal territories (including the capital Kuala Lumpur where RWG is located) to curb the spread of the pandemic by limiting travel between districts.

The restrictions will be in effect 13-26 January. The Prime Minister explained the healthcare system is under pressure as the number of cases has grown and said: “As I have said before, unprecedented situations call for unprecedented measures.”

Because movement control affects tree travel within the country, RWG predicts a lower number of visitors: “With this announcement, we anticipate a decline in the number of visitors to Resorts World Genting.

"Hence, we will be operating at a lower capacity and some of our offerings may not be available from January 13. Some of our hotels, facilities, attractions and other offerings will be subjected to revised operating hours, limited availability or temporary closure.”

Previous movement control implemented in 2020 caused RWG to remain shut from March to June. And specialists predict the new movement restrictions could last up to three months, which means the resort could miss out on the Chinese New Year peak season.
