The vice chairman of GEG Francis Lui said 2020 was a challenging time, but the company continues to work to help Macau become World Center of Tourism and Leisure. The company also thanked staff for their commitment. “Our expansion from 2021 and beyond will create tremendous opportunities to team members. Delivering this will have its challenges and difficulties at time, but working hard as a team and differentiating ourselves will be rewarding.”

Sands China Ltd is another operator to offer support payments to staff. The company promised to pay the discretionary allowance to more than full-time 26,000 employees. The bonus is worth a full month’s salary and is capped at MOP45,000 ($5,635). The bonus will be paid on 8 February, and is applicable to 99% of Sands China employees.

Sands China president Wilfred Wong stated the bonus will be in honour of Sheldon Adelson who died on 11 January. “Our company’s founder, the late Mr Adelson, was particularly proud of the Sands China Ltd. team and our accomplishments. He was adamant, even during the most difficult times last year, that the company should do all that it can to support team members, their families, and the Macau community at large. It gives me great pleasure, therefore, to announce that, in Mr. Adelson’s memory, the company will pay a discretionary allowance in appreciation of team members’ support, hard work and personal sacrifices.”
