DraftKings launches its sportsbook in Virginia
By Iqbal Johal

The fantasy and sports betting operator’s online and mobile sportsbook is now available for customers in Virginia, allowing them to bet on a range of markets across professional and collegiate sports.

DraftKings follows in FanDuel’s footsteps, who was the first operator to launch in Virginia last week after the state became the 19th in the US to offer legalised sports wagering.

It is understood up to 14 operators are seeking licences in the state, including the likes of BetMGM, Penn National’s Barstool Sportsbook and WynnBet.

However, DraftKings has since launched ahead of Super Bowl LV, between Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs on 7 February, with a consumer research study by the operator suggesting sports fans in the state were most likely to bet on the National Football League (NFL) ahead of other sports.

More than 250 unique sports leagues will be available to bet on via DraftKings’ sportsbook in Virginia, which is now the 12th state where the sportsbook is operational.

DraftKings co-founder and CEO Jason Robins said: “Just in time for Super Bowl LV, we are thrilled to bring the DraftKings sports betting experience to Virginia with an abundance of betting options for fans.

“With our customer-first approach, we hope to be the sportsbook of choice for Virginians who enjoy having skin in the game.”
