Entain partners with RGC ahead of gaming and sports betting legalisation in Canada
By Peter Lynch

The Responsible Gambling Council (RGC) will conduct the research, which aims to focus on consumer rights in Canada and experiences across other international jurisdictions to help regulators make evidence-based recommendations that balance operator needs and consumer risk factors.

Entain has previously expressed interest in applying for a licence in Ontario, following the Canadian federal government last year introducing a bill that could pave the way for the legalisation of single-event sports betting.

“We know from similar research in many markets in which we operate, including the United States, that regulators value research which supports an evidence-based approach to decision-making and effective regulation from a wide range of other international jurisdictions,” said Martin Lycka, SVP for American Regulatory Affairs & Responsible Gambling at Entain.

Ontario is expected to become the first province in Canada to introduce online gambling, with licences set to be granted in 2022.

Shelley White, RGC CEO commented: “As a global leader in responsible gambling, RGC is committed to working with regulators, operators and the public to establish the development and implementation of a robust responsible gambling culture.

“RGC’s work with Entain will contribute to vital advancements in consumer safeguards.”
