UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has suspended the operating licence used by operator 666Bet.

UKGC sent out a statement on Friday confirming that the licence held by Metro Play Limited, 666Bet’s online casino subsidiary brand, which it acquired in September, has been suspended while a review into the company is carried out.

The statement read: “The Commission has decided to commence a review because it suspects that Metro Play Limited (the Licensee) is unsuitable to carry on the licensed activities (section 120(1)(d) of the Act) and considers it appropriate to suspend the licence with immediate effect pending the conclusion of the review.

“The suspension is an interim measure, the need for which will be kept under consideration whilst the review takes place.”

666Bet wrote on its official Twitter page on Friday that its site is down for maintenance.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances our site is now under maintenance,” the operator wrote. “We hope to have this back up and running as soon as possible.”

Customers of 666Bet were then informed via Twitter on Saturday that they would be paid any outstanding withdrawals.

666Bet launched in June and has since signed betting partnership deals with Barclays Premier League football clubs Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion.

Barry Martin stepped down from his position as CEO of the company in January, which 666Bet did not make a comment on.
