By Gambling Insider

On 27 March 2021, around 33 individuals were arrested and remanded to judicial custody during a cricket betting case.

Now four more have been added to the list and remanded to police custody, with a court in Vadgaon Maval saying they will remain so until 6 April.

Krishna Prakash, commissioner of Pimpri-Chinchwad police said: “We cannot deny their link with international betting rackets. They were found in various locations as due to Covid rules, they could not enter the location as rightful viewers. The participants are generally people from the middle and upper-middle class.”

Prakash added that police have received details of 12 betting apps that were used by the men involved in the betting scandal.

Police are currently searching for 24 more people said to be involved in this case - including bookies from different states across the country - and have organised four teams to tackle the culprits and investigate the matter further.

Prakash said in a press conference that “there is a possibility that the accused are linked to international bookies.”

It is believed that out of the 37 arrested, five people have tested positive for Covid.
