Evelen individuals were arrested, as police also seized 17 laptops, 100 mobile phones and other equipment used for gambling activities, reported Malay Mail.

According to the Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department's SAC Saiful Annuar Yusoff, the centre was in operation for two months, likely earning MYR20,000 ($4,858) daily.

“The syndicate is believed to be promoting online gambling to Chinese nationals at the premises, which was rented for RM10,000 a month,” said the officer.

A week ago, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had to take action against a viral video clip that promotes an online gambling platform said to be based outside of Malaysia. Three people were arrested for promoting such online gambling activities.

“The police advised the public not to share the video. In fact, such acts are not only illegal but can cause public concern,” said Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Mohamad Zainal Abdullah.

Illegal gambling is an ongoing issue in Malaysia. Earlier this year, police raided another online gambling call centreand arrested five people.

Police seized four mobile phones, six computer monitors, three central processing units, an access card and two modems. “Our checks revealed the unit was used as a place to conduct online gambling activities for clients in Korea,” stated the police.

The operation used the Telegram instant messaging service for its business. Police reminded the public not to get involved in similar activities as they are against the country’s criminal code.
