Interim restrictions were imposed on 2 May requiring the closure of the casino, including the food and beverage facilities within the casino. All hotels, non-gaming food and beverage venues, banqueting and conference facilities will remain in operation.

“Crown Perth will continue to work closely with the relevant authorities in Western Australia and will respond to measures taken by the Western Australian Government in relation to Covid-19,” a statement from the operator read.

The announcement comes just two days after the casino reopened following the easing of restrictions in the Perth metropolitan area and Peel region. Gaming and non-gaming operations at the facility were given the green light to commence on 1 May in accordance with Western Australian Government restrictions.

Crown Perth remains the subject of an ongoing Royal Commission currently being held in Western Australia, focusing on whether Crown Perth is suitable to hold a gaming licence, and the regulatory framework around the industry across the state.

It comes after a New South Wales inquiry found Crown unsuitable to hold the licence at its new casino in Sydney due to money laundering and junket operators who brought in high-rolling gamblers with links to organised crime.
