Macau casino market suffered its worst month in over four years in April, figures released by the Macau Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau have showed.

Casino revenue for the region totalled 19.17bn patacas ($2.4bn) and is the lowest to have been reported since January 2011, when 18.57bn patacas was generated, and it is the third time the monthly figure has dropped below 20bn patacas in that time.

The monthly total is down 39% year-on-year from 31.32bn patacas and marks an 11th consecutive monthly drop, with the last monthly increase being a 9% upturn in May last year.

April’s total is down from March’s 21.49bn patacas and the year-on-year decrease has matched March’s 39% drop.

The first four months of the year have accumulated revenue of 83.94bn patacas, which is down 37% from 133.52bn patacas.

The record for the highest ever year-on-year percentage decrease has been broken three times within the 11 consecutive months of decline, with February’s 49% drop to 19.54bn patacas breaking December’s record 30% fall to 23.29bn patacas.

Macau casinos suffered an annual revenue drop last year for the first time since records began in 2002, with the total of 351.52bn patacas being down 3% from 360.75bn patacas.
