BGC welcomes new Gambling Minister Chris Philp
By Gambling Insider

The new appointee’s responsibilities have not yet been disclosed; however, it was confirmed one of his duties would be overseeing the continuation of the Review of the 2005 Gambling Act following John Whitingdale’s recent reshuffling.

Mr Philp’s first act as Gambling Minister was to articulate the Government’s Independent Review into the fall of Football Index, mentioning that lessons must be learned to make sure “a situation like this does not happen again."

According to data, BGC members generate £4.5bn ($6.1bn) in taxes to help pay for public services and also contribute £7.7bn to the economy in gross value added; therefore Dugher has emphasised the importance of the continuation of the Government’s “evidence-led approach.”

Mr Dugher added: “We have made excellent progress working towards the Gambling Review white paper and we are sure the Government will not wish to lose momentum.”

BGC’s Dugher mentioned Mr Philip’s excellent reputation as a minister, praising his talent and “extreme” capability; he concluded: “I look forward to working with Chris in the months ahead as the BGC continues to drive big changes and higher standards on safer gambling, ensuring we get the balance right between protecting the vulnerable while ensuring that the millions who enjoy a flutter safely and responsibly have the freedom to do so.”
