“First of its kind” tribal gaming agreement in Canada
By Gambling Insider

The amendment establishes the legal framework for a new online gaming site expected to launch next year. The site will feature online casino games and sports betting.

FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron said the agreement is the "first of its kind not only in Saskatchewan but Canada. This obviously is going to be a positive benefit to our 74 First Nations communities. Saskatchewan Gaming Authority is leading the way for gaming in First Nation country.… This is reconciliation at its finest."

The Gaming Framework Agreement is the document that allows the operation of casinos in the province through the non-profit Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA). The new contract gives SIGA five years of exclusivity to operate the site and stipulates a 50/50 revenue split between the federation and the province.

Jim Reiter, Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority, commented: “The province and FSIN have had a long and successful history as partners in casino gaming. Over the years, SIGA has earned its reputation as a top-quality gaming organisation and we’re excited to move forward with them on this new venture.”

SIGA Chair Chief Reginald Bellerose said this contract represents an evolution opportunity for the Gaming Authority and a chance to change the gaming industry: “The additional revenue opportunities from online gaming and sports betting will only increase SIGA’s ability as a non-profit to positively impact employment, economic growth, positive community relations and financial self-reliance of First Nations in the province.”
