Colorado’s August betting volume shows 17% increase from July
By Gambling Insider

Out of the $211.9m in August wagers, $208.3m came through online operators, proving the bettors’ growing interest in online wagering. Year-on-year, August’s betting volume was up almost 65% from $128.6m in August 2020 and up 17% from $181.3m in July. The month’s gross gaming revenue reached $15.2m, up almost 103% from $7.5m in August 2020.

Ian St. Clair, Analyst for PlayColorado, commented: “It’s encouraging to see a bump ahead of the most important four-month stretch of the year. A mere taste of football in August showed its importance to sportsbooks. But what we saw last month is just a precursor for what we expect for the final four months of the year, which should bring an onslaught of fresh records.”

After the new launches of operators (like Barstool and the Sports Illustrated Sportsbook) just ahead of football season, Colorado is now home to more online operators than any other state, with 26 in total.

The state’s market includes a wide range of sporting betting interests. August’s favourite sport to bet on was baseball (with almost $70m in wagers), tennis also gained interest (with $13.5m in bets), soccer brought in almost $12m, basketball reported over $10m in wagers and the total bets on tennis table exceeded $8m.

Eris Ramsey, Analyst for PlayUSA (which includes PlayColorado), mentioned: “Colorado is remarkably consistent, and continues to outperform the size of its population base.”
