By Gambling Insider

According to PlayNJ (which tracks gaming developments in the state), New Jersey also set a new high for online casino revenue, taking the state’s total gaming revenue to $453.6m.

Eris Ramsey, Analyst for PlayUSA, explained: “The state’s gaming industry has seemingly run out of ways to surprise, but sportsbooks reaching $1bn in the monthly handle is a reminder that there is no gaming market in the US that is playing on New Jersey’s level. The relentless growth in online sports betting and casino gaming continues to lift the entire industry.”

Official data reported New Jersey’s online and retail sportsbooks attracted $1.01bn for September, breaking the state and US record of $996.3m that New Jersey had set in December 2020. September’s volume was up 35% from the $748.6m generated for September 2020 and up 52% from $664.7m for August 2021.

Online sportsbooks generated almost 91% of the state’s handle with $918.4m in wagers and FanDuel led the online market with $36.6m in gross revenue, up from $23.6m for August. DraftKings came in second with $13.2m, BetMGM followed with $10.8m, Barstool generated $4.1m, Caesars $3m, SugarHouse $1.8m and Unibet generated $1.6m.

Retail sportsbooks attracted a record $92.7m for September, up from $51.8m in bets for August and FanDuel dominated the retail market as well with $4.7m in revenue.

Ramsey concluded: “As impressive as September was, New Jersey’s sports betting market hasn’t yet reached its ceiling. The NBA and college basketball seasons could really send wagering into another stratosphere in the coming months.”
