Sands China and MGM among six casino operators to sponsor Macau Grand Prix races
By Dominic Marius-Markham

SJM, Sands China, Galaxy Entertainment, Melco, MGM and Wynn were announced as this year’s sponsors during a press conference held by the Macau Grand Prix Organising Committee, an honour which will see their names attached to one of the competition’s six races.

As Macau emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic, the event’s organisers have chosen to go ahead with the Grand Prix hoping it “sends a clear message and demonstrates that Macau is a vibrant and safe city to visit.”

In a statement, the Organising Committee said: “The associated positive effects of the Grand Prix serve to promote the development of different industries, and thereby boost the economy. In addition, the annual Grand Prix will be broadcast to countries and regions in the mainland and overseas so as to positively promote the image of Macau.”

However, this year’s competition is not business as usual with several changes caused by Covid, most notably there will be no teams from outside Macau, Hong Kong or Mainland China, and the event lacks a title sponsor.

Instead, the six casino licensees will each take one race apiece, to be named the SJM Formula 4 Macau Grand Prix, the Sands China Macau GT Cup, the Galaxy Entertainment Macau Guia Race, the Melco Macau Touring Car Cup, the MGM Greater Bay Area GT Cup and the Wynn Porsche Carrera Cup Challenge.

In addition, the safety, medical, rescue and working vehicles for this year’s Grand Prix will be sponsored by BMW Concessionaires, while Macau Industrial is the designated beverage sponsor of the event.
