The Oneida Nation to offer sports betting in Wisconsin
By Isabella Aslam

Players at Oneida Casino will be allowed to bet on the state's three professional sports teams: the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers and Milwaukee Bucks.

The growing trend to wager on college athletics teams remains.

As a result of a new gaming compact amendment with the state, sports betting is now allowed. Such wagering includes betting on sports and events like televised award shows, and professional league drafts, baseball, football and basketball games.

To mark the occasion, On Tuesday 30 November 2021, Oneida Nation will hold a ceremony at its main casino near Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport.

A recent study by the New American Gaming Association found that in more states, customers are steering away from illegal sportsbooks and toward legal options.

Operating in a casino in Milwaukee, Potawatomi officials have said they plan to seek a similar compact amendment with the state.

The statement read: “The Potawatomi look forward to bringing sports betting to Milwaukee in the future.”

There have been no sports betting plans announced by the officials operating casinos from the other nine tribal nations in Wisconsin.

Louise Cornelius, Oneida Nation Gaming GM, said: “Sports betting is nothing new here in Wisconsin, but legal betting is new. We hope to provide an environment for our clientele that is clean and up-to-date with the best technology possible.”
