Paddy Power pays homage to Terry Butcher at new shop opening
By Gambling Insider

The retail outlet was wrapped with an eight-metre-long, 35 cm wide red headband (symbolising blood) in “a nod to one of the most iconic footballing images ever captured.”

During a 1989 World Cup qualifier, Butcher was involved in a clash of heads yet, bandaged up, he played on.

Commenting on the giant headband, Butcher said: “It’s a privilege to be invited to the new Paddy Power store to mark its opening, but it is an extra special feeling to have the store decorated in my honour. It’s a ‘bloody’ good idea if you ask me.”

The Cornhill store is the first-ever Paddy Power retail store in the Bury St Edmunds area and is expected to bring new jobs to the local community.

Spokesman Paddy Power said: “We’re so pleased to be able to open the new Paddy Power store in Bury St Edmunds, our first in the area. We know the blood, sweat and tears that have gone into the opening of this store, and that’s just the giant bandage!”

Paddy Power Retail CEO David Newton will feature in the January/February edition of Gambling Insider magazine – the CEO special, which is the most prestigious issue of the year.
