Kasper Schmeichel ITV documentary - “I had to check Eriksen was okay”
By Gambling Insider

The Leicester City and Denmark international goalkeeper features in a new ITV documentary, Kasper Schmeichel – Keeping The Faith, as part of the broadcaster’s Against All Odds series, produced by ITV and funded by Coral. The documentary, which airs on ITV4 at 10pm on Tuesday 10 January, also features contributions from current Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers, former Leicester captain Wes Morgan and his father, legendary Manchester United goalkeeper, Peter Schmeichel.

On those harrowing events, Schmeichel explains his reaction in the seconds after Eriksen’s on-field collapse, while playing for Denmark in June of last year: “We were in the same boat as everybody. We didn't know any more than anyone else – we just had a front-row seat to it. I knew his family were there, I knew they were sitting not far from it, we didn't want them to see that. Some of us couldn't look – I myself, I couldn't not look. I had to see if he was okay.”

Fortunately, Eriksen went on to survive a cardiac arrest with swift help from players on the field, as well as life-saving medical assistance from the team doctors. In the broadcast, Schmeichel talks about how he, and Denmark captain Simon Kjaer, spoke to Eriksen at half-time: “Christian had woken up and myself and Simon were able to FaceTime with him in the tunnel, and you know, he told us to go and play.”

The goalkeeper will also talk about Leicester’s triumphs over the past six years, including the 2016 Premier League and the FA Cup in 2021. He’ll also touch upon the tragic death of former Leicester Chairman, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, who perished in a helicopter crash, and how it was growing up as the son of a Manchester United icon.

Against All Odds is a 10-part documentary series, and has featured the likes of jockey Hollie Doyle and darts world champion Gerwyn Price.
