Profit for the period increased by 57% to JPY42.38bn.

The Japanese entertainment conglomerate reported year-on-year increases in all four of its business segments. Gaming & Systems, however, had the biggest increase, growing 59% year-on-year to JPY18.68bn.

Amusement followed with a 22% climb to JPY13.71bn, with Sports growing 18% to JPY30.69bn. The Digital Entertainment section, the group’s largest source of revenue, increased by 6% to JPY153.96bn.

Konami noted that due to the improving circumstances regarding Covid-19 restrictions in Japan, “business profit, operating profit, profit before income taxes and profit attributable to owners of the parent for the nine months ended 31 December 2021 have reached a record high.”

As for the Gaming & Systems segment, Konami noted that the vaccine rollout in North America has led to the relaxing of some restrictions on casino facilities, meaning the “market is revitalising.”

The company added that while other countries remain uncertain due to the impact of Covid-19, the “market is recovering gradually.”

Due to the uncertainty of restrictions and new variants, Konami could not provide an outlook for the fiscal year ending 31 March 2022, but with regards to its Gaming & Systems segment, the group noted that it is working hard to strengthen its product appeal and “increase further profitability to address the future demand recovery.”

One such area of expansion involves Konami’s gaming content, with the company focusing on the introduction of new titles such as Bull Rush in the Australian market.
