Scientific Games grows global footprint with Azerbaijan national lottery deal
By Gambling Insider

As part of an exclusive 10-year supply agreement, the former Soviet Republic’s national lottery, Azerlotereya, has launched sports wagering with Scientific Games’ technology.

The agreement is for the provision of retail and digital lottery instant games, draw games and sports, as well as an omnichannel lottery gaming system.

It also represents an expansion of the Las Vegas-based provider’s existing partnership with Turkish conglomerate Demirören Holding, the operator of Azerbaijan’s national lottery.

“In Azerbaijan, we sought a proven, scalable solution for both retail and online betting,” said Demirören Board Member Sinan Oktay.

“Our partnership with Scientific Games has had great success in other large markets, and together we are offering a modern experience for bettors that will deliver strong results to the government of Azerbaijan.”

With this latest deal, Scientific Games is looking to capitalise on Azerbaijan’s status as a premier destination for major competitions.

It cited the Eurasian country’s “deep roots in sports”, referencing its history of hosting big events, such as the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Baku, as well as four high-profile matches in the recent European Football Championship.

Pat McHugh, CEO for Scientific Games Lottery, commented: “Congratulations to all involved with the success of the national lottery in Azerbaijan and the new sports betting launch.

“We appreciate the vision and trust Demirören has in our lottery expertise, systems technologies and ability to serve a large, multi-channel lottery market.

“We believe that Scientific Games offers a powerful sports betting solution that is tailored for government lotteries requiring a large-scale retail and digital betting program.”
