The events, known as the Cazoo Oaks and Derby for sponsorship reasons, ran this year on 3 and 4 June.

Across both days, £48.6m was bet into World Pool, with just under £24m wagered on Friday and roughly £24.7m wagered on Saturday.

World Pool was created by the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) and allows horseracing fans from more than 20 nations to bet into a single pool, increasing the total amount that can be won.

Over the two-day meeting, which formed a centrepiece of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, £3.36m was up for grabs in prize money.

The biggest pools were on the Cazoo Oaks and Cazoo Derby, with just under £5m and over £5.2m wagered respectively.

In the UK, World Pool is operated by Tote. Alex Frost, CEO of the UK Tote Group and Epsom Downs Racecourse Committee Member, said: “It was a very special weekend at Epsom Downs, and it was fantastic to be on-course to see such thrilling racing action across both days.

“It was particularly encouraging to see both Cazoo Oaks and Derby Days perform so strongly as UK World Pool days go from strength to strength and awareness about the value available in global pools grows amongst racing fans.”

Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, HKJC Chief Executive, expressed a similar sentiment, remarking: “It is most encouraging to see World Pool once again perform incredibly well over the two days at Epsom with record turnover on the Cazoo Oaks and then the Cazoo Derby.

“The top-class racing appealed to racing fans around the globe as awareness of the value offered by World Pool continues to grow.”

The next World Pool event will take place at Royal Ascot from 14 to 18 June.
