German regulator approves Incode Technologies’ age verification solution
By Gambling Insider

In March 2020, the European country approved legislation to introduce new conditions for online gambling operators.

This law, the Interstate Treaty for Gambling, came into effect last year and requires operators to authenticate customers’ identities, including through age verification to determine whether or not they are a minor. This is where third party solutions, such as Incode’s, come in.

The company’s solution verifies a user’s age by comparing a photo of their ID card against a selfie. When a picture is submitted, Incode’s “ID Validation microservice” recognises and classifies the user’s card, performs tests to confirm authenticity and generates a score for the ID.

The KJM, meanwhile, is Germany’s top regulator responsible for safeguarding underage citizens online, which includes gambling. Having now received a positive ruling from the KJM, Incode will be able to supply its solution to operators.

“At Incode, we are creating trust in the digital world by making it easier, faster and more secure for people to verify and validate their identity globally, including and across Europe,” said Ricardo Amper, Incode CEO.

He added: “With this successful KJM review, Incode Technologies will be able to protect minors in Germany, specifically reducing underage gambling, while at the same time improving sign-up rates for eligible players.

“While meeting anti-money laundering and know your customer compliance requirements, operators also want their customers to have a smooth, secure and frictionless sign-up and age verification experience that is simple and intuitive.”
