Meals on Wheels Delaware receives $10,000 Delaware Park Casino & Racing donation
By Peter Lynch

It is the first monetary donation presentation from a new community initiative which will feature a different organisation each month.

“Many Delawareans 60 years and older live alone, are unable to shop for themselves and live on a fixed income,” a statement from the group read. “To assist this population, Delaware Park Casino & Racing recently provided donation boxes in their facility to collect unused vouchers from their guests.

“During the months of June and July, Delaware Park’s charitable guests contributed to Meals on Wheels Delaware, with Delaware Park Casino & Racing making a considerable donation for the grand total of $10,000.”

MOWD aims to raise funds, other resources, and awareness to support meal delivery programmes to housebound seniors in the Mid-Atlantic state. It supports five meal-delivery locations statewide, and in 2021, delivered 898,509 hot and nutritious meals to over 6,600 seniors, with the help of over 1,000 volunteers.

“It is an unfortunate reality that many homebound seniors don’t know where their next meal is coming from,” said Delaware Park Casino & Racing President & General Manager Ron Baumann. “Thanks to the generosity of our guests, we can help those who may be struggling.”

Commenting on Delaware Park Casino & Racing’s social media announcement regarding the donation, Meals on Wheels Delaware said: “We are so grateful for your support and to be chosen as July’s beneficiary! Thank you to everyone who made this possible. Together we can end senior hunger!”
