AGA releases new edition of responsible gaming guide
By Louis Thompsett

This is the first update to the guide since 2019, which includes a centralised collection of the statutes and regulations addressing responsible gaming in the 34 states where gaming is legal in one form or other (and the District of Columbia).

The AGA’s guide will contain updated regulatory information as it relates to commercial casinos, sports betting and iGaming as of 1 July 2022.

Since the AGA last renewed its guide, two new states have legalised land-based casino gaming, while 16 states have legalised sports betting (either on or off-line) and two states have legalised iGaming.

AGA Strategic Communications & Responsibility VP Cait DeBaun said: “While our members’ responsibility commitments go above and beyond what is required of them, this guide is a valuable resource for our industry to maintain its high standards of regulatory compliance in all facets of responsible gaming.”

RGEM month (September), which the release of the new guide coincides with, is celebrating the first time it will raise awareness for a month rather than a week. In other words, it’s the first time it will be known as RGEM month, rather than RGEM week.

To mark this event expansion, the AGA has organised it around four different themed weeks. From 1-10 September, the theme is to empower customers to play responsibly; 11-17 September will focus on how legal, regulated gaming protects players; 18-24 September will address employees; and 25-30 September will contemplate how responsible gaming can be advanced through technology.

DeBaun added: “Our industry’s focus on responsibility has only grown with the expansion of legal gaming.

“RGEM 2022 provides an extended opportunity to highlight our industry’s responsible leadership while continuing to strengthen player and employee education. We are thrilled for the entire US gaming community to join us throughout September.”
