Rank Group defends "strong offer" made to casino workers set for strike
By Louis Thompsett

Casino workers across Grosvenor Casinos' seven properties, namely croupiers and dealers – but food and beverage waiting and kitchen staff too – will walk out between 18:00 hours on 9 September and 06:00 on 12 September 2022.

As a result, there is a risk that the operator may have to close its casinos this weekend, with 91% of casino workers who are members of Unite voting in favour of strike action.

A spokesperson for Rank Group spoke to Gambling Insider: “We are disappointed that the Unite union has brought about strike action over the coming weekend among a small number of colleagues in four of our eight London casinos.

“Against the backdrop of an extremely challenging trading environment for Rank, and for the sector as a whole, we have made a strong offer which we believe fairly addresses the current cost of living crisis. We expect all of our casinos to be open for business as usual this weekend.”

Gambling Insider understands Rank has increased the average pay of workers across Grosvenor Casinos' London properties by an average of 11% in the last 12 months, prior to offering employees retention bonuses of £600 ($690) and £800.

These retention bonuses have, in effect, been provided on top of the average 11% rise.
