Over 2.4 million sports bets placed in Kansas at start of September
By Peter Lynch

Sports betting began in the state on 1 September 2022, with Kansans quick to get in on the action immediately, cashing in over $47m in winnings during the aforementioned period.

The Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals, of the National Football League (NFL) and Major League Baseball (MLB) respectively, were the most popular teams that bets were placed on.

They were followed by National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I football team the Kansas State Wildcats and NCAA Division I basketball team the Kansas Jayhawks.

The Kansas Lottery noted that the Chiefs’ NFL match against the Arizona Cardinals on 11 September was a popular betting event, along with the Buffalo Bills versus the Los Angeles Rams on 9 September.

The NASCAR races at the Kansas Speedway also attracted plenty of interest from bettors in the Sunflower State.

“It should come as no surprise that with the additional interest in the Hollywood Casino 400 Presented by Barstool Sports on Sunday, September 11, that Hollywood Casino and Barstool Sports broke Penn Gaming’s record for a new property opening,” a statement from the Kansas Lottery read.

It’s a strong start for the state, and with plenty of NFL action to take place over the coming months, the numbers will seemingly only grow from this point on. This will, of course, be supported by MLB and other sporting events.

The Kansas Lottery added: “Congratulations to all of the winners! The Kansas Lottery is excited to continue the growth and development of the sports betting platforms for Kansas players.”

Earlier this month, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement reported its gaming revenue figures for August 2022, with sports wagering gross revenue for casinos, racetracks, and their partners amounting to $65.3m.
