GamCare praises Entain's safer gambling record – weeks after £17m failings settlement
By Matthew Nicholson

As Entain’s industry event got underway in London, GamCare’s presentation on safety in the industry highlighted Entain’s position as a market leader and how the company has been working to reduce harm within the sector.

Kenward said during his speech: “People talk about this being the right thing to do to reduce harm for your customers. It is up to businesses like Entain to show leadership in a field that sometimes lacks it and set standards in terms of its practices.

“We go into gambling operators and say, ‘this is what we do; we’re here to work with you to make you better and challenge you.'”

Kenward also spoke about how GamCare rates operators, showcasing its priority areas of coverage when handing out its certifications, which include: Gambling harms are widely recognised and prevented, universal access to effective tools and support, universal access to caring, evidence-led and effective treatment.

Meanwhile, the presentation also showed GamCare’s updated standard for businesses in the industry, which highlighted a company’s culture, customer environment, customer management, colleagues and collaboration.

According to GamCare’s standards, Entain had met the standards of a Level 3 Award for its online business, while it was awarded a Level 2 for its land-based operations – which Kenward was keen to mention was a very good score, encouraging Entain to do more going forward.

All this comes against the backdrop of Entain agreeing to pay a £17m ($19m) settlement to the Gambling Commission for previous failings.
