Mohegan generates $5.2bn for local economies, according to new report
By Matthew Nicholson

The economic impact report, Mohegan’s first, takes an in-depth look at the last representative year available to Mohegan and shows the company’s impact on employment, household income, direct visitor spending, as well as state & local tax support.

The report stated that Mohegan has created around 35,000 jobs, paid $759m in local and state taxes – as well as gaming contributions – and made $639m in business purchases that support local businesses in the areas in which it operates.

Mohegan commissioned Oxford Economics to deliver the report, which revealed the positive effect the company has had on the communities it is in – including Uncasville, Connecticut; Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania; Ridgefield, Washington and Atlantic City, New Jersey.

James Gessner Jr, Chairman of the Mohegan Tribe, said of the economic impact report: “Mohegan is deeply rooted in supporting the communities in which we operate and serve, and this new report makes clear the true scale of that impact across our critical partnerships, charitable giving, sustainability initiatives, funding infrastructure, and direct contributions to state and local government revenues.

“We are guided by our core values and our centuries-old philosophy, ‘Spirit of Aquai’ – living the importance of cultivating productive and long-term relationships. This study demonstrates the important benefits of those relationships.”

Meanwhile, Ray Pineault, President & CEO of Mohegan, added: “We’re gratified that our continued success has a positive impact on local businesses and the surrounding communities. Our success is a credit to the one-of-a-kind entertainment and experience that our team members provide at each property."
