White Paper exclusive: BetBlocker – “We are looking forward to playing our part in the changes”
By Matthew Nicholson

BetBlocker’s Duncan Garvie has spoken to Gambling Insider about the release of the UK Government’s White Paper on the 2005 Gambling Act, which – after many delays – finally dropped this week.

"BetBlocker welcomes the release of the White Paper, which outlines much-needed updates to gambling legislation to better address the realities of the modern remote gambling industry," Garvie commented. "We are pleased to see a wide range of stakeholders in the sector responding to the proposed changes and signalling a broad shared commitment to keeping players safe and minimising gambling harm.

“While looking to take a balanced view of all of the measures suggested in the White Paper, the statutory levy, stake limits on slots games, and affordability checks are important steps towards a safer and more transparent sector within the UK gambling market."

Garvie also encouraged the Gambling Commission (GC) to include RET organisations in funding the proposed levy, stating: “We strongly encourage the GC to ensure that all RET approved organisations, both large and small, are included in the dialogue surrounding how funding from the levy will be distributed in future.

“By doing so, the regulator will ensure they create a system that supports all of the services on the frontline, helping thousands of vulnerable people in the UK every day. Engaging with these established sector experts will help ensure the proposed reforms are deployed in the most comprehensive and effective manner.”
