IGT announces 10-year agreement with National Lottery in Malta
By Gambling Insider

International Game Technology (IGT) has signed a 10-year contract with the newly elected operator of the National Lottery in Malta, National Lottery PLC, with a second contract expected to last until 2032.

IGT has worked closely with National Lottery PLC to establish a new lottery scheme for Malta, including the reintroduction of instant tickets to players.

The lottery central system and retail solutions from IGT initially launched in Malta in July 2022, after National Lottery PLC was issued its licence.

An additional draw was also developed for Lotto, as well as two new games, Pick 3 and Super 5-4-3-2-1.

This marked the first draw games to go live in the country for over a decade.

Johann Schembri, IZI Group's Founder and CEO, said: "IGT's extensive experience with achieving significant sales growth for leading lotteries such as National Lottery PLC made it an ideal partner for re-establishing Malta's National Lottery."

National Lottery PLC, a subsidiary of IZI Group, won the contract after Malco Lotteries Limited’s incumbent ended following the nation's dissolution of the government monopoly.

The National Lottery will be subject to regulation and supervision from the Malta Gaming Authority and managed by National Lottery PLC until July 2032.

Jay Gendron, IGT Chief Operating Officer, Global Lottery, said: "National Lottery PLC and IGT had an ambitious, seven-month timeline to complete a comprehensive lottery system implementation and deploy new equipment throughout Maltese retailers.

"Nevertheless, IGT was up for the challenge. Our technology, along with new draw-based games and features, went live in record time and on schedule."
