Kroll Australia appointed as Independent Monitor for SkyCity Adelaide
By Gambling Insider

Dini Soulio, Liquor and Gambling Commissioner for South Australia, has appointed consultancy firm Kroll Australia as the Independent Monitor to oversee compliance at SkyCity Adelaide.

This follows an investigation into the anti-money laundering, counter-terrorism financing and host responsibilities at SkyCity Adelaide.

After reviewing the findings, Soulio confirmed that the results warranted action being taken against the establishment.

Kroll currently offers its compliance, risk and governance services across 30 countries and also holds the role of Independent Monitor for Crown Casino Sydney.

On the appointment, Soulio said: “I approved the appointment of Kroll, after being satisfied that they would be sufficiently independent and have the expertise to effectively monitor SkyCity Adelaide to ensure they are meeting these very important requirements.

“Kroll’s staff include people who have worked for the national regulator, AUSTRAC, are experts in fraud and risk management and have extensive experience ensuring casinos are fulfilling their regulatory requirements.”

As well as being appointed an Independent Monitor for its compliance issues, parent company SkyCity Entertainment Group has allocated a provision of AU$45m (US$29.2m) for potential AUSTRAC civil penalty and legal expenses.

Soulio continued: “SkyCity Adelaide, as the operators of our only casino, have a duty to the broader South Australian community to ensure their anti-money laundering and counter terrorism funding measures along with their measures to minimise gambling-related harm comply with all regulatory requirements.

“Kroll is an experienced consultancy firm with staff who have a tremendous amount of experience in this field both nationally and internationally.”
