Euro 2016 outperforms the World Cup for Interwetten
By David Cook
Euro 2016 helped propel Interwetten to a 29% year-on-year gross gaming revenue increase to €32.8m for the first six months of 2016.

The operator said that revenues from the tournament were up 35% in comparison with the 2014 FIFA World Cup, despite only 51 matches being played at Euro 2016 in France as opposed to 64 being played in Brazil two years ago.

EBITDA went up 13% to €6.7m and net profit rose 13% to €5.7m.

Sportsbook revenues were up 93% for June, though a total was not given, but mobile channels made up 63% of the sportsbook revenues in that month.

Werner Becher, Spokesman for the Interwetten board of directors, said: “I’m very happy and proud that our strategy of sustainable growth works so well. Having increased our marketing spend before and during Euro 2016, we managed to increase our profits at the same time. For anyone managing a company, there is no better proof of strategic success in terms of team and product performance.”
