Las Vegas casinos which have previously closed will re-open their doors to customers for one day only, allowing them to preserve their existing casino licences.

The Las Vegas Club casino, which closed in August 2015 and nearby Mermaids Casino which closed in June 2016, plan to reopen later this month for eight hours each to meet Nevada gaming regulations as confirmed to the Las Vegas Review Journal.

Nevada’s Gaming Control Board has recommended approval of a plan to preserve the grandfathered gaming license for the buildings containing the two Fremont Street properties on Wednesday.

Local slot operator United Coin Machine will set up 16 slot machines for eight hours at the Las Vegas Club on June 27 and then relocate them to the Mermaids Casino, opening it for eight hours on 28 June.

Under Nevada Gaming Commission regulations, a gambling facility must be open for at least eight hours every two years in order to keep its gaming licence.

The proposed plan will be reviewed by Las Vegas’ City Council members on June 21st with a final decision being made by the Nevada Gaming Commission the following day.

Further plans for the two closed casinos have yet to be disclosed.
