Portugal issues eighth online gambling license
By Manuel Marti
ugal has announced the issuance of its eighth online gambling license, expanding the country’s regulated iGaming environment. Gambling regulator Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos has granted to Estoril Sol the permission to offer online sports betting services. The license represents the eighth issued by the regulatory body since Portugal ratified legislation early last year legalising and regulating online gambling and sportsbetting.

However, it is the second license for Estoril Sol which had already been operating online casino services. The company obtained the first online gambling license back in May 2016.

The firm has announced that it will use Belgian platform Gaming1 to offer a range of sportsbetting markets at its website Esconline.pt alongside the developer’s innovative Opti-Odds feature to boost the odds on any multiple bet slips.

In an official statement, Rui Magalhaes, Chief Executive Officer for the Estoril Sol digital subsidiary said: “Since moving online, we’ve enjoyed great success and the next logical step for us was to bolster our offering with sportsbetting.

“By combining our knowledge of the Portuguese market with Gaming1’s state-of-the-art technology and online sportsbook expertise, we were more than confident to offer sportsbetting to our players.”

Moreover, Estoril Sol has been in Portugal’s gaming industry for over five decades. It has become the largest land-based casino operator in Portugal, operating three casino resorts in Lisboa, Póvoa and Estoril.
