Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has revealed that revenue from the state’s 1,241 poker tables increased by 3.8% year-on-year in July.

Last month’s gross total revenue from state poker rooms topped $77.8m rising from the previous year’s total of $75m for the same period of 2016. Total tax revenue from table games play during July was $12,497,186.

The states three biggest year-on-year increases in table gaming revenue during July were at the Mount Airy Casino Resort in which revenue grew 45%, The Meadows Casino in which revenue jumped 39.5% and the Lady Luck Casino Nemacolin which reported revenue growth of just over 25%. Revenue losses of 30.42% and 13.36% were reported at the Valley Forge Casino Resort and the Mohegan Sun Pocono respectively.

According to the report, gross revenue from the states 25,584 slot machines at 12 casinos fell by 2% in July of this year to $209m compared to the $213m of gross revenue in July 2016. State tax revenue in July generated exclusively from slots games topped over $102m.

Despite these figures, the Valley Forge Casino Resort and Mount Airy Casino Resorts both recorded growth in their gross revenue figures from slots gaming, rising year-on-year by 9.83% and 5.71% during the month of July.

The news comes amidst fevered debate in Pennsylvania regarding the introduction of legislation to legalise online gambling and daily fantasy sports as a way of increasing state revenue.

At present, the proposed bill is due to be reviewed by the Pennsylvania Senate Law & Justice Committee when it convenes on the 19th September, however there is significant legal wrangling to be done over the inclusion of highly controversial video gaming terminals legalisation measures within this bill.
