Portugal issues 11th online gaming licence
By Manuel Marti
on-based A Nossa Aposta – Jogos e Apostas Online, S.A has been announced as the eleventh operator to be awarded an online gaming license since Portugal’s new online gambling law came into force in 2015.

The newly-licensed entity will offer its services to Portuguese customers under the Nossa Aposta domain and it will provide online casino games, in particular, online slot games.

The Portuguese regulatory body, Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (SRIJ), has now granted seven licences for the provision of online casino games; whilst it has only authorised four licences for online sportbooks.

Despite the introduction of its legislative framework for online gambling in June 2015, which led to the withdrawal of operators including Betfair and William Hill, the online market remains promising ground for operators. In September alone, Portugal welcomed three new operational licences. Additionally, Portugal’s online gambling market raked €82.2m in the period between late-May 2016 and March 31, 2017, showing consistent growth in revenues.
