the month of October, Macau visitors were up by 7.9% to the prior year-period, amounting to approximately 2.89 million.

The figures were posted by the city’s Statistics and Census Service, showing that the number of overnight and same-day visitors rose by 7.3% and 8.4% year-on-year respectively to 1.47 million and nearly 1.42 million.

The high level of growth was attributed to arrivals coming in for the Chinese National Day holidays – commonly known as the October Golden Week period – which this year was boosted by coinciding with the lunar calendar-based Mid-Autumn Festival holiday.

These promising figures will provide the region some better news after growth levels in Q3 slowed down. Despite the fact that Macau’s GDP expanded by 6.1% on a year-on-year basis, it showed a decrease in the level of expansion in comparison to previous quarters.

Hopefully the increase in visitor numbers during the month of October will give the region the well needed boost to finish off the financial year with some impressive results.
