017’s fourth quarter, Spanish online gaming revenue increased by a whopping 38% according to the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ), showing gains across all of the key verticals.

Revenue during the three months ending 31 December, 2017, generated €173.3m, up 38% on the corresponding period a year prior. Furthermore, the fourth quarter revenue figures also posted an increase of 23.5% on the total collected in the third quarter of that year.

Sports betting continued to be the main source of income, with a €103.6m contribution to the total, up 48.5% from the period in 2016.

Moreover, live betting accounted for 68.4% of Q4’s sports betting turnover, but only 51% of betting revenue.

Casino revenue also posted a year-on-year increase of 37.4%, totalling at €49.4m.

Roulette (combined live and conventional) was the dominant casino product, accounting for 45.8% of spending and 35.4% of revenue. Slots ranked second on the casino spending chart with 39.5% but claimed 52% of casino revenue.

The DGOJ also showed that active customer ranks improved nearly 12% year-on-year to over 676k, while customer deposits soared by 53.2% to €495.5m.

The active customer figures are somewhat surprising, due to operators cutting their Q4 advertising spend by 1.4% to €31.3m in that quarter.

Nonetheless, bonus offers to customers were up 13.1% year-on-year to €21m, whilst sponsorship expenses more than doubled to €3.15m and finally, affiliate marketing expenses hiked up 38.6% to €7.5m.
