Musician Steve Albini wins first World Series of Poker gold bracelet
By Nicole Gheller

“There’s still hope for everybody!” Albini told World Series of Poker after the win.

He beat six-time winner Chris Ferguson and then took the win over Jeff Lisandro, also a six-time winner, to clinch his title.

Albini, a musician with the band Shellac and producer for Nirvana and the Pixies, has been playing poker for decades.

His band had just finished a European tour when Albini decided to make the trip to Las Vegas for the tournament.

“I am ecstatic that a player as mediocre as me can outlast all of these better players and end up with a bracelet!”

The event was happening in conjunction with two other poker championships - Poker Players Championship and Seniors Event - which, according to Albini, is the reason why he was able to win..

“The field for the stud tournament, I think, was kind of historically weak, which allowed a sucker like me to make it to the final table.”
