The study identifies potential American Football revenue streams that would stem from betting, such as increased advertising, sponsorship and consumption of NFL media and products.

The largest portion of revenue, the study claims, comes from consumption of the league’s products, such as media rights, sponsorship, merchandise and ticket sales.

Further revenue is detailed as $451m in the form of operator spend on advertising, an additional $92m from sponsorship and $30m in data.

Nielsen Sports surveyed over 1,000 adult sports fans and “self-identified sports bettors” across the US.

Sara Slane, AGA Senior Vice President of Public Affairs, said: "Legal, regulated sports betting will create huge new revenue opportunities for sports leagues – and the NFL could be the biggest winner of all.”
